Tanzania’s president and ruling party are set to secure a victory in the upcoming October 2025 general election, benefiting from a strong traditional support base. However, an intensifying crackdown on the opposition has tainted the country’s democratic credentials and raised concerns among international stakeholders about civil liberties. Nevertheless, the country continues to experience robust growth in FDI, supporting a positive economic outlook. The government is banking on concluding negotiations with international energy companies for an LNG plant in the southern region, although the proximity of insurgent violence in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province raises the risk of insecurity spillovers.
