The conclusion of a regional assessment mission has pressured the governing and main opposition parties to agree not to re-run last year’s disputed election and to work towards a roadmap for electoral reform. However, deep-rooted political distrust and deteriorating socio-economic grievances indicate that further outbreaks of localised unrest are expected in coming months, although the government appears stable following an attempted military insurrection late last year.
